Compounded Tirzepatide: important safety information

Please read this information carefully before starting compounded tirzepatide. It does not replace the guidance of your prescribing provider.

Boxed warning: risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. In rodent studies, Tirzepatide caused thyroid C-cell tumors. It is not known whether compounded tirzepatide causes such tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in humans. Do not use if you or a family member have had MTC or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

What it is

Compounded Tirzepatide contains Tirzepatide, a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist that helps regulate appetite and blood sugar. Compounded tirzepatide is prepared by a licensed US compounding pharmacy and dispensed only on a valid prescription. Compounded medications are not reviewed or approved by the FDA for safety or effectiveness.

Do not use if you

  • Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC).
  • Have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
  • Have had a serious allergic reaction to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients.
  • Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Tell your provider before starting if you

  • Have or have had problems with your pancreas, kidneys, or gallbladder.
  • Have a history of diabetic retinopathy.
  • Have a history of depression, suicidal thoughts, or mental health conditions.
  • Take other medications that lower blood sugar (such as insulin or sulfonylureas).
  • Have a history of eating disorders.

Common side effects

The most common side effects are gastrointestinal and often improve over time as your body adjusts: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, indigestion, and reduced appetite. Eating smaller, lower-fat meals can help.

Serious side effects: seek care promptly

  • Possible thyroid tumors, including cancer. Tell your provider about a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath.
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis). Stop use and seek care for severe abdominal pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting.
  • Gallbladder problems, low blood sugar (especially with other diabetes medicines), kidney injury from dehydration, serious allergic reactions, and changes in vision.
  • Mood changes, including depression or thoughts of self-harm. Contact your provider right away if these occur.

Storage & handling
